Influenza can vary in severity, and vaccination is one strategy that may reduce the risk of infection and its complications.

The National Immunisation Program (NIP) provides funded vaccines for Medicare-eligible individuals who may be at higher risk of severe illness. This may include:

• People aged 65 years and older

• Pregnant women

• Aboriginal and Torres Strait Islander people

• Individuals aged 6 months and over with certain medical conditions

• Children aged 6 months to under 5 years
