PBS Safety Net
The Pharmaceutical Benefits Scheme (PBS) Safety Net helps reduce the cost of medicines. When you obtain certain medications, such as some prescription medications, you pay an out of pocket fee. Once your spending on PBS medicines reaches a set limit within a calendar year, you’ll receive additional subsidies, lowering your out-of-pocket expenses for subsequent medications. Those with Medicare are eligible. The threshold needed before the safety net is reached is lowered if you are an Aboriginal or Torres Straight Islander Australian or have a concession or health care card. In certain circumstances, families can merge their individual PBS payments such that the threshold is reached sooner. For more information speak to our administration team or speak to your local pharmacy.
